“On a dark, crisp, halloween night years ago, all the children of a small village in Castle Rock we’re trick-or-treating on the streets near by. But  that same night,  multiple children came up missing. The parents of the children panicked, searching hours for their children and waiting.  for them to return home. Many people had spread rumors about a witch that lived in the woods of Castle Rock, and had stolen the children.

All the people in the village put their children to bed and locked their doors, they then marched to the witch’s house. As they beat in the door , the witch fled into her hidden basement beneath the floorboard. The men chased and captured the witch while the women stayed outside and set up the burning stake for the witch. The men dragged the her out of the house by the hair of her head, while her hideous face scrapped against the cold, hard ground. While  the witch screamed in pain the women accused her of stealing their children, along with other terrifying accusations.
The witch fought for her life, as the men struggled to tie her to the wooden stake. Right before they burned the witch to her death, the men and women slashed her with horrible names and curses. One woman stood up, looked into the witch’s eyes, and told her that she could never repay her debt. She then threw the lit torch onto the pile of wood surrounding the wooden stake. They all stood there and watched and listened to her horrible screams as the witch burned to death. They all wished and prayed that she was gone and that their children would come back to them.

265 years later.

“That was years ago,” is what I say to the children before me, after I finish reading them the fictional story of Halloween.  Halloween is in two days, I have no idea what I’m going to do. I have to buy candy and costumes. I am not ready for this day so soon. The next day, I buy tons of candy and four costumes; my costume is Little Red Riding Hood.

I am so excited that tomorrow is Halloween! It’s going to be great, amazing even. On Halloween, my siblings and I are getting dressed and ready to go trick-or-treating; we are so enlivened. We all grab our buckets and run out the door to acquire all the candy we can. We go our separate ways. I tell them, “We meet back here in 3 hours.” The hours go by and I can’t find my siblings, they’re gone and I am in a panic. I keep searching, then I realize that all the children are gone, everyone is missing. It’s like they evaporated into thin air…

So I start running as fast as I can to get away from there. I have tears in my eyes, missing my brothers and sisters. Until I hear a wicked laugh. It is horrible, terrifying. It is everywhere… almost like the laugh is following me. But at that split second, I see her. She is a hideous woman with dark eyes and rough, hard skin. She is missing hair on the right side of her head.

She looks at me and calls for me. I try to hide. Moments later, she finds me, grabs me by my legs, and drags me into a dark alley. There, she tortures me until I can’t take it anymore. Finally, I am put out of my misery… with a sharp knife.  Right before I die, she promises to return next year. But for me, it is my last Halloween, 2018.
