Students quit trick or treating toward the end of middle school… but why? Trick or treating is the perfect time to hang with friends, get out in the community, be creative with your costume, and not to mention… the free candy! After surveying the 8th grade newspaper staff, 16/18 newspaper staff members still trick or treat! When asking 8th grader, Tazha Harper, if and why she still trick or treats she responded, “Duh… it’s free candy!” We asked 8th grader, Mackenzie Sarrett, what she thinks about trick or treating and she said, “Trick or treating, in my opinion, is very cool and fun, hello, free candy!” Mackenzie plans on going as a zombie this year and trick or treating around her neighborhood. She also does not plan on sharing any of the candy she receives, “If I’m going to work for it, I’m going to keep it,” she stated.

Mackenzie isn’t the only one looking forward to Halloween. 7th grader, Meredith Hall, says she looks forward to Halloween and being able to hang with some friends, dress up, and have fun. She plans to dress as a boxer, along with her friends this year. “I love being able to get creative with my costume. There are so many things you can be and so much candy you can eat,” she says. “I don’t plan to trick or treat but I do look forward to be able to see my friends and their costumes,” she added. Meredith also said that she doesn’t believe kids are not necessarily missing out if they don’t trick or treat. “At our age you don’t have to trick or treat, but you should still go out, dress up, and just have some fun!”

Raigan Lytton, 8th grader, says she is looking forward to Halloween and trick or treating as well.  “I plan to dress as a cat, go out with some friends, and just have fun,” she says. Cooper Michael, 8th grader, said conclusively, “I think you are never too old to go trick or treating.” In fact, he may never stop.

Andrew Epling also gave his input on the subject, saying he has loved Halloween and trick or treating ever since he was little. “Yeah, it’s great, I do like free candy, and considering I’m broke, what a steal!”
