Cross-Country running is a sport in which teams, as well as individuals, run a race on open-air courses over natural terrain such as dirt or grass. It is a very challenging sport and runners take their training very seriously.

Delaney Mitchell and Elly Withrow, two of the most elite runners on the team, have been pushing personal limits as bulldog cross country runners for 3 years.

“I love how challenging it is. It is a self driven sport, and that at the end of the day the work you put in will show in your results,” says Mitchell.

“My favorite part is the feeling when you get a medal and realizing you’ve accomplished something that a lot of others can’t do,” Withrow responded.

This year multiple runners have placed many times and our coaches are very loved. The two coaches for our team are head coach a Mary McClanahan and assistant coach Angela Houck who have lead a very successful season with multiple runners who have placed.

“Coach McClanahan is a fantastic coach; she always encourages us to do our best in running and in life,” exclaimed Mitchell.

The Beckley Stratton cross-country teams works hard and give their 100 percent at each and every practice and meet. This year they only have a total of 11 runners on the team.

Our cross-country team has had a successful this year, much like that of previous seasons. It is a great sport with amazing people and if you have the chance to join the team next year, it would be a great opportunity.
