Many believe that a rock is just a natural solid substance, but the local group, Beckley Rocks, doesn’t. Beckley Rocks is an organization created by the people of Beckley for one sole purpose; happiness. Beckley Rocks spreads happiness and cheer throughout the town by hiding painted rocks amongst the city.

Beckley Rocks Facebook page serves as a platform for over 5,000 members to post found and re-hidden rocks for all to see. Creatively painted rocks get hidden and clues are left on the Facebook page to help lead scavengers to find them. Many state that it’s a never ending scavenger hunt, and one that anyone can join. Others state that it is a way for people to show off their artistic abilities.

To join the hunt, all you have to do is paint a rock, or write something nice on the front of it. Don’t forget to write the name of your county or Beckley Rocks Facebook page on the back to let the finder know how to join in on the creative hunt.

On November 5th a rock painting party was held at 110 Marshall Street. Kids and parents from all over Beckley came to enjoy this fun, family friendly party. Christine Kinder, member of Downtown Beckley Business Association, stated that, “it’s just a great way to get people out and discover new places.”

With the efforts of spreading joy and cheer throughout the town, the people of Beckley Rocks hope that when you find a rock it will surely put a smile on your face!
