On Tuesday, October 24, 2017, BEST students exhibiting exemplary leadership and academic prowess were inducted into the Beckley-Stratton Middle School National Junior Honor Society.

Consequently, each person initiated into this august assembly will be obligated to honor the five pillars of membership, encompassing Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Character, and Citizenship.

The Scholarship pillar comprises the scholastic constituent of the chapter, as it entails the expectation that students are to receive no less than an aggregated GPA of 93.45. Discretionary community service, of which a minimum of twenty hours are anticipated, falls into the Service pillar. Likewise, advocating for morality and being resourceful is embraced in the Leadership pillar.

Honesty, trustworthiness, and respect for others are characteristics sought after in the Character pillar, and presenting a clear understanding and maturation of school and community guidelines is compulsory in the Citizenship pillar.

At the induction ceremony, students were notified of the significance of their earned positions, lit candles to symbolize their devotion to upholding the pillars, and celebrated with refreshments in the cafeteria subsequently.

New inductee, seventh-grader Skyla Martin, gushes, “I feel greatly honored to have such an opportunity. I strive to be a leader and I think knowing the true meaning of the five pillars will help me accomplish my goals.”

Moreover, being inducted into such a reputable extracurricular is met with immense approbation, and its members deserve the upmost commendation.
